King Ayisoba

Ghanaian musician and kologo player born in 1974 in Bolgatanga, in Ghana's rural north, and descended from a Fra Fra hunting tribe. He plays the kologo, a homemade two-string lute made from a calabash and covered in goatskin, and sings in three distinct voices, one of which he says belongs to his grandfather, a spiritual healer. His 2006 debut Modern Ghanaians earned him three Ghana Music Awards in 2007; later albums include 1000 Can Die (2017) and Work Hard (2023) on Glitterbeat Records. His seventh album, Pure Confusion (September 4, 2026), was recorded live in one afternoon at producer Adrian Sherwood's Ramsgate studio and finished with dub production.
