Muddy Waters

Mississippi-born, Chicago-based blues singer and guitarist whose Chess Records sides defined postwar electric blues. "Hoochie Coochie Man," cut in January 1954 with Willie Dixon on bass and Little Walter on harmonica, became his biggest American hit and one of the most covered blues songs ever recorded -- despite being written not by Waters but by Dixon, who received no label credit on the original single.
