Soundgarden

Seattle band formed in 1984 by Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, and Hiro Yamamoto, later completed by drummer Matt Cameron and bassist Ben Shepherd. Heavier and odder than the grunge label implied — drop tunings, lopsided meters, and a singer with close to a four-octave range. Cornell died in 2017.
