Label Spotlight: Exteran Studios
Exteran Studios is the independent creative studio behind This Long Broken Road, This Big Broken World, and the Dawson McCoy / Sadie McCoy vocal personas.

Exteran Studios is an independent creative studio founded on February 3, 2022, blending technology with creativity. The name derives from Latin roots meaning “belonging beyond the familiar; of the outside” – operating independently with integrity, whether beyond, alongside, or across mainstream paths. On the music side, the studio is the home base for vocalist, composer, and producer Brian Kittrell and the dual-persona project he writes and produces for.
The studio’s flagship catalog is This Long Broken Road, a dark country and Americana album released under Kittrell’s own name on February 6, 2026, and since expanded into a Contemporary Country Edition, a hard-rock single reinterpretation, and Concertos on This Long Broken Road, a 10-track instrumental companion. The same ten songs are also voiced by two studio personas, Dawson McCoy and Sadie McCoy, each with their own full edition of the album – including an R&B rework of McCoy’s. The follow-up project, This Big Broken World (2025), widens the lens from Kittrell’s personal history to broader cultural and societal fault lines, again performed through both personas.
Exteran Studios’ production approach stays consistent across the catalog: stripped-down arrangements over studio polish, 12-string acoustic guitars and heartbeat-like percussion, and vocal performances that prioritize presence and lyric clarity over technical gloss. The result is a sound built to feel lived-in rather than manufactured – a studio identity as much as a sonic one.
