“God I’m Just Grateful,” released November 7, 2025, pairs Elevation Worship’s polished contemporary-worship production with Chandler Moore, one month after he announced his departure from Maverick City Music. That exit wasn’t a quiet one: Moore has since filed a fraud lawsuit alleging that a former manager and the collective’s CEO, Norman Gyamfi, misused his position to take ownership stakes, commissions, and publishing rights without Moore’s consent, citing roughly $800,000 in disputed royalties – allegations Maverick City Music has publicly denied, calling them “wildly untrue.” None of that legal dispute is mentioned in the song itself, and it doesn’t need to be; the context is what makes a fairly simple lyric about gratitude land as more than a genre exercise.
The song itself is unhurried and direct: three co-writers plus Moore build the track around undeserved grace and a plain, repeated statement of thanks rather than an elaborate central metaphor, and Moore’s vocal – warmer and less showy here than some of his Maverick City work – treats the material as something to sit inside rather than perform at full volume. Moore has called it one of his favorite songs he’s written with Elevation’s team, and the restraint in the vocal take backs that up; it doesn’t sound like an artist trying to make a statement about his own situation, which is exactly why the situation ends up giving the song its weight anyway.
8.1/10 – a plainly good worship song that would work fine with no backstory at all, and works even better once you know what its singer had just walked away from.
