Katy Nichole's deliberate song of surrender from her sophomore album Honest Conversations does the harder, less flattering version of a worship song's central ask.

“Have Your Way” is a song of surrender in the most literal sense – a request to be reshaped by something outside the singer’s own control – and Nichole’s writing is careful to make that request sound costly rather than comfortable. Too many contemporary worship songs treat surrender as an instant, triumphant transaction: ask, receive, resolve by the second chorus. This one keeps circling back to the actual difficulty of meaning it, letting the bridge sit in uncertainty a beat longer than the genre’s usual formula allows.

The production, from Nichole’s sophomore album Honest Conversations, stays appropriately restrained underneath that lyric – piano-led, patient, building only as far as the words have actually earned by that point in the song. Nichole’s voice carries real conviction without reaching for the kind of vocal pyrotechnics that would undercut a song specifically about giving up control.

It’s not a reinvention of the worship ballad form, and it doesn’t need to be – the song’s value is in how honestly it sits with its own hardest line rather than rushing past it toward an easy resolution.

7.6/10 – a well-written, well-sung entry in a crowded genre, distinguished mainly by its patience.
