Skillet's second After the Storm single is formula, but it's their formula, executed with two decades of conviction behind it.
Skillet teased this one like a single that knew exactly what it was — a snippet drop, a fan vote on release timing, then a Friday delivery of crushing guitars and an arena-sized chorus built to be shouted back at a festival crowd. John Cooper’s said “Lift Me Up” feels like “early Skillet” while still sounding current, and that’s a fair self-assessment: it’s formula, but it’s their formula, executed with the same conviction that’s kept this band relevant across two decades of Christian-rock and mainstream-rock crossover.
Nothing about “Lift Me Up” surprises you. Everything about it does what it’s built to do. 7.2/10 — a band that knows its own formula cold, delivering exactly what it promises.
