Brandon Lake and Lainey Wilson's country-worship duet is a comfortable genre crossover rather than a risky one, and comfortable is mostly enough when the songwriting itself holds up.

Brandon Lake has spent the last several years building a career on exactly this kind of pairing – a contemporary-worship songwriter fluent enough in mainstream genres to cross over without either side feeling like a stunt. “The Jesus I Know Now,” released April 3, 2026, with country star Lainey Wilson, follows the same playbook that worked on “Hard Fought Hallelujah”: take a worship idea built on personal change over time, and cast a collaborator whose own public identity gives the theme somewhere specific to land. Wilson’s mainstream country profile and her own occasional references to faith in interviews make her a plausible partner for the song’s central conceit – a testimony about how one’s understanding of God changes with age and experience – rather than a purely commercial crossover pairing.

The song itself is comfortable rather than adventurous: a mid-tempo arrangement blending Nashville country instrumentation with contemporary-worship chord structures, competently executed but without a single moment as sharp as the best of either artist’s individual catalog. Lake and Wilson’s voices blend well, and the songwriting – built around growth and grace rather than crisis – is sturdy, if familiar territory for the genre. It’s a good example of the country-worship crossover lane Nashville has been building out for several years now, executed by two artists well-suited to it, without quite finding a detail as memorable as the pairing itself.

7.4/10 – a solid, well-cast genre crossover that never quite becomes more than the sum of a smart pairing.
