Judy Collins
American folk singer who broke through in the 1960s Greenwich Village scene, known for her clear soprano and for turning other songwriters' work — Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Stephen Sondheim — into some of the era's best-known recordings. Her a cappella "Amazing Grace" (1970) became an unlikely transatlantic hit and a Library of Congress National Recording Registry selection.
